Work with photographers in developing studio set-ups and in directing photo sessions with human subjects. Page design involves extensive work with Quark Xpress, FreeHand and Photoshop. Worked with news editors to produce Front Page and Sports section cover on daily deadline. Researched, designed and produced informational graphics for daily news sections as needed. Responsible for art direction and production of various other products. Served as art director for Texas Magazine, the Chronicle's locally produced Sunday features magazine, on an intermittent basis. Worked with freelance reporters, illustrators, and photographers. Designed and produced Fine Arts Calendar and other annual special sections. |

CREATIVE SERVICES MANAGER. Harte-Hanks Communications, Inc. Bryan-College Station Eagle. Bryan, Texas. Responsible for all editorial graphics, advertising design, and promotional advertising programs for this 30,000 circulation paper and its direct mail products. Reported to advertising director and on special projects to publisher. Worked with wide range of editors while directing creative staff consisting of up to four artists and two writers. Responsible for promotional budget, payroll, and assorted other expense accounts. Joined paper as advertising staff artist July 1981. Promoted to Advertising Art Manager October 1982. Received Creative Services title July 1985 when assumed additional responsibilities outside the advertising department. Established multi-media agency in house. Worked with advertising director and two account executives to establish an in-house agency for the newspaper and its advertising clients. Produced multi-media ad campaigns that included radio, billboards and various direct mail and print products. Accompanied account executives in making major sales presentations. Devised system of monthly training sessions for salespeople that was adopted by corporate management. Subjects ranged from layout and typography to use of process color. Trained staff at both the local paper and at other corporate divisions. Played key role in launching new products. Worked with advertising and editorial departments in developing a direct-mail newspaper targeted to college students. Created introductory multi-media advertising campaign. Coordinated promotions with university associations. Created successful speculative ad program. Developed program as a means of generating ad sales through speculative presentations. Personally designed, wrote and produced spec ads resulting in sales of 23,060 column inches in eight months. Averaged 2,880 inches per month in spec sales, with a sales rate in excess of 90 percent over five years. Increased sales 212%. Worked with corporate cable divisions in Houston to develop a full color promotional tabloid designed to increase cable subscription sales. Combined with a new programming approach and customer focus, the first two issues resulted in a 212% sales increase in six weeks. |

THE WOMEN'S FUND FOR HEALTH EDUCATION AND RESEARCH Houston, Texas. Designed and illustrated What About Me?, a book for girls ages 10 to 16. The 86-page book included 29 original two-color illustrations plus numerous text boxes and checklists. Received text on disk and delivered prepared for printer. In second printing of 30,000 copies each. A Spanish language edition is in process. |

THE HOUSTON BAR ASSOCIATION Houston, Texas. Designed and illustrated book jacket for A Commitment to Public Service: The History of the Houston Bar Association (Gulf Publishing, 1992). Conceived and produced cover illustrations for The Houston Lawyer magazine. Created the cover illustration for at least one of the six issues each year between 1990 and 1997. Subjects ranged from the statutory shield in wrongful death actions to drug testing in the workplace. In 1997, the magazine was turned over to another publisher, who elected to cut costs by using in-house talent. |
